There is a lot to like about progress indicators. (PDF)
  • They are ubiquitous in our lives.
  • Like a subway map or a road map they contextualize location and progress.
  • They are dynamic, allowing learners to manage their time and give learners a sense of control.

Module-Nested Sequenced Learning Chunk

Whether a course or a micro-credential the instructional architecture is organized by modules.
1. Pre-Content Modules | There are two pre-contnet modules:
  • Welcome Module (general information), and
  • Introduction Module (micro-credential specific).
2. Content Modules | There are three to five content modules with four specific learning chunks in each:
  • Module Overview Chunk
  • Presentations and Activities Chunk
  • Enhanced Activity Chunk
  • Summative Chunk
3. Post-Content Module
4. Continuing Content Module

Equipment Mini-Manuals

When was the last time you rented a car and read the manual? Students should not be expected to to read a 100+ page manual to use a piece of equipment they are borrowing for a day or two. The mini-manual provides enough information for students to get started and want to learn more about the technology.

Multimedia Producer

Aligning the objective to the workflow to the final product often requires allowing people to try out their material. After the original video was recorded, I re-imagined the point of view and the props, thereby creating a video that aligned with the objective. PDF
